ALPINE
Alpine is a speed event that involves skiing down a course by navigating a series of gates with left and right turns. Skiers take turns racing down the course individually. On a dual course, competitors race side by side. Each racer is allowed one (1) inspection run and two (2) timed runs. Competitors can compete as an individual or in a team of 2 to 4 competitors from your school.
During the inspection, competitors perform a slow snowplow run to study the course. They should focus on identifying the correct side of the gates to pass and noting any features that could help them gain speed. If you are unsure of the correct side of the gates, please ask at top of course.
At the Regional and State Championships, the team result combines the times from the three fastest competitors (from either their first or second run), individual results are determined from competitors best time of two valid runs.
This event is designed for entry-level competitors and becomes progressively more technical at the State and National levels. It is recommended that competitors combine this event with Ski Cross for a well-rounded experience.
The event is open to participants from Division 6 through Division 1.
