Single Bib for Snowboard GS and Snowboard Cross events
Published Mon 25 Mar 2024
The Snow Australia National Interschools and Sport Development Committee (NISDC) acknowledges the responsibility of ensuring that the Interschools Snowsport Championships minimise the environmental impact on the mountains in which we all ski, snowboard, compete and enjoy. The NISDC is proactively integrating sustainable event practices into the delivery of the Interschools Snowsports events, whilst at the same time not comprising the integrity nor quality of our event.
This year the NISDC will be piloting the single use of one bib across two similar disciplines to reduce the number of disposal bibs. This decision is based upon approximately 89% of participants competing in both events, with approximately 85% participating in the same team. This initiative has been trialled for several years at the ACT & Regional snowboard events with little disruption.
In 2024, this pilot will occur in the Snowboard disciplines of Snowboard GS (SBGS) and Snowboard Cross (SBX), and only for the following NSW and Victorian events:
NSW
- SUBARU Northern NSW/QLD Regional Championships
- SUBARU Sydney Regional Championships
- SUBARU ACT and Regional NSW Championships
Victoria
- Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools Championships
The event entry process for these events will be communicated to the Northern and Victorian School Coordinators by their event management teams prior to the school coordinators meetings.
Snow Australia Interschools will pilot this initiative in 2024 and conduct post-event consultation with Resort partners and the schools. If the review concludes that the pilot program has been successful, further investigation and consideration will be given to implementing a single bib across all SBGS/SBX events and the possibility of extending the initiative to other Interschools disciplines in 2025 and beyond.
