Steve Cooper to step down from NSW Interschools Snowsport Championships at the end of 2024

After 26 years of voluntary service with NSW Interschools, with the last 22 years as Chair of the Snow Australia Northern Interschools Championships, Steve Cooper will retire from the operational delivery of the Northern Interschools Snowsport Championships at the end of the 2024 snow season.

Steve has been instrumental in the development and success of the Interschools Snowsport Championships. At the helm, Steve has led the expediential growth of Championships from approximately 5,200 competitor entries in 2002 across 20 event days, expanding to an expected 12,000 event entries in 2024, which will see 37 Interschools competition days across 3 resorts.

Under Steve’s leadership, the Interschools Championships has developed and delivered a thriving events program that has introduced many of our past Olympians to the thrill of competitive Snowsports, and continues to foster the next generation of snowsports athletes in Australia.

Snow Australia is pleased to announce that Rebecca Clark - Community Engagement Manager, will now oversee the strategic and operational delivery of the Northern Interschools Snowsport Championships.

Rebecca has over 16 years’ experience in the Australian snowsports industry, starting in the Perisher Race Department. She has since held roles as the NSW Interschools Operations Manager, Executive Officer of NSW Snowsports and more recently Snow Australia’s National Alpine and Development Pathway Coordinator, which she left in 2021 to take on a Coach Advisor role at the Australian Sports Commission.

I look forward to continuing Steve’s legacy and creating opportunities to inspire future engagement in our sport.” said Rebecca Clark.

As of 2024, Cathy Lambert will also be stepping back from Interschools operations and will no longer administer the event series. As the General Manager – NSTC, Cathy will focus on the management and operations of the National Snowsports Training Centre (NSTC). Cathy has been pivotal in the events success and the interschools committee congratulates her on her new role.

The Northern Interschools Snowsport Championships also welcomes a new Interschools Event Officer, Rhianna Burke. As a previous Interschools participant and Perisher Race Department staff member, Snow Australia is excited for Rhianna to join our team. Rhianna will be responsible for the administration and delivery of the Interschools events.

The Interschools committee is planning for an even stronger event series in 2024, as we maintain our focus on providing fun and safe events, along with a highly positive on-snow experience. To contact our team, email interschools@snow.org.au.
